Happy 1st Birthday!
One year ago today as a (somewhat unfulfilled and bored) scientist looking for a creative outlet to counterbalance the rigor of grant application writing, I began the Silk Scarf Aficionado.
In order to celebrate a milestone birthday, I thought I would devote this post to something a little different. Regular readers of my blog will know that another great passion of mine is Art, with Austrian expressionist painter Egon Schiele being my favourite artist. Unfortunately, with my love for art firmly rooted in early 20th Century Vienna, I had resigned myself to the fact that current art was not intended for me.
Enter Howard Tangye. Central Saint Martins tutor (whose ex-students include the likes of Stella McCartney, Hussein Chalayan, Christopher Kane, Richard Nicoll, and Zac Posen), fashion illustrator, and my new favourite artist (after Egon of course). Since stumbling across his work a week ago courtesy of an article in the Telegraph, I have been eager to discover more of his work. Fortunately, that is something I will soon be able to do thanks to a current Kickstarter campaign that aims to bring together Tangye’s previously unpublished work into one beautiful cloth bound book.
If interested in supporting the campaign to see Tangye’s masterpieces (yes, they really are) published, a number of great rewards are available to potential backers, including posters, signed books, limited edition prints and even original artworks. I am still deliberating over which reward I want more! For more information on this Kickstarter project click here.
